Dr. Lakra, carved in black stone in Kathmandu.

Propose a project

Dr. Lakra drew a column of creatures: a monkey on a coiled cap, a skull held between two hooded cobras, a ringed spine, and a crocodile curled around a lotus base. We took the drawing to stone carvers in Kathmandu and had it cut, by hand, in black ballistic stone.

Each part was roughed out of its own block with hammer and chisel, the artist’s printed drawing on the floor beside the carver, then refined, fitted and finished. Revisions travelled between the studio and the workshop until every scale and ring matched the drawing.
